Hooray!!!

Hooray!! I have finally finished my ICT AND my Problem Solving toy Assignments. All packed up and ready to return to Uni on Tuesday.
I may even be able to squeeze in my Key Skills literacy assignment too!
I am feeling rather proud of myself!
so, now I am smack bang in the middle of my assignments. its hard going but I think I now have all bases covered. The ICT one is proving to be the easiest AND the hardest one. Only because I sort of get somewhere with it, and enjoying what I am doing and then lose my train of thought, go off to sort out another assignment and then lose where I was with this one! Not Good at all.

Here is part of my ICT assignment...one of many parts

Wordle: sense of place

ICT Assignment - what i understand is...

  • We have to plan a visual presentation on the subject 'Sense of Place'. Now that can be anything that relates to you, what you like, what you love, where you live, interest etc. Music, film, Cartoon, Fashion, ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING! So long as you can relate everything back to you.
  • It is 4000 words all in all, The Sketchbook and blogs (not the Education Guest Lecture Ones) are worth 3000, but not literally words. Just remember 'A picture is worth a thousand words' - But not literally, you cant just put in 3 pics and think thats it!
  • You then have to write a Project Statement. This is worth 700 words and can be written under these headings - 1. Ideas and Intentions  2. Subject Matter/Reference Material/Sources 3. Materials/Media/ICT Programs/techniques used. Just like Caroline's toy assignment write up, just say what you plan to do, why and how you are going to do it.
  • Then lastly its the Evaluation. This is worth 300 words and can be written under these headings. 1,. Ideas and Intentions have been realised?  2. Media Chosen for Presentation/Outcome is appropriate?    3. Is ICT a suitable tool for Visual Communication
I hope this helps some people.

Thank

Sian

ICT Branding Exercise - Glogster Poster

Here is my Branding Exercise using Glogster

Late-Night Blogging...2

Once again, i have been lax in my updating my EduBlog. I am very sorry. I hope to catch up within the next week.

What is Education? Guest Lecture Blog Posts
please go to http://guestlecturerssmu.blogspot.com.

Many Thanks.

oops

The task for March 12th (below) has only just been published as i had not realised that i had not published it. Does that make sense?

Late Night Blogging...once again.

ICT Task for Monday 12th March

Our task for this session was to read an article entitled 'The Pervalence and Influence of the Combination of Humor and Violence in Super Bowl Commercials'.

I too think that some peoples' Schadenfreude attitudes to others getting hurt can be used to a sellers trick into buying the product. The comical violence in the adverts make them more memorable and thus helping the product in it selling.
Its a bit like Product Placement and Subliminal Messages in films. The Pepsi Company readily used their product in many films of the /nineties such as

:Home Alone (1990)
mmm...pepsi anyone?

and The Thomas Crown Affair (1999 - Remake)

When Rene Russo gasps "i f***ing Love Pepsi One", inbetween furious gulps of the product.

The most shameless use of Product Placement in the late eighties in "Mac and Me" (1988).
On Mac and Me ..."atrocious low budget rip-off that would represent the nadir of product placement, if the movie wasn't so unitentionally awesome." Jeff Steinbrunner (2008)

This was more or less a glorified McDonalds advert, the film was so ill received (poor in my opinion) that the only thing people, who had been to see it, remembered was the Dance scene in the restaurant. This probably left the audience feeling...peakish.

Here is a video from www.Youtube.com featuring the spokesclown for McDonalds...creepy! Enjoy

The most obvious product placement, but used for comedic effect is this classic film from 1992 "Waynes World" in a clip simply titled 'I will not bow down to any sponspor'...you will, oh yes, you will.

"...all publicity is good Publicity, as the saying goes" (David Thomas - my husband!)

I know i have completely gone off the topic of Violence in the Super Bowl Commercials but this is my point of view...

Product placement in any type of form, albeit commercials, film or radio can be used to deliver subliminal messages/advertising to the viewer/listener. The examples i used above are more obvious product placement but in adverts where comical violence and humour are used, the product is at the back of the viewers 'mind', making them less aware of wanting the product, but still wanting it. Strange that.

Late-Night Blogging...

Good Evening.
I shouldn't be saying this but i have been far too busy to blog with Caroline's and Sian's presentations looming overhead...
...but here I am, at 10:20pm sat at my old computer (my laptop still in repair at PC World), talking to whoever is reading this.

Here is a (not so) brief summary of the past few weeks events.

  • Education - Policy & Practice
I have not seen many Guests speaker as of late, I am either not in due to illness, child's illness or the lecture being cancelled.
  • Contexts for Thinking and Learning
Stacey, Mathew, Kristian and I did our presentation for 'Fact or Opinion' about Transgender. Here is my Evaluation of the Presentation as written on my Reflective Log
"I found this assignment quite fun and interesting to do, i learnt quite a bit about the subject in hand. I found out things I had no idea about, things I thought I knew and things that I was almost certain on. I Still  feel that we had missed the point of the presentation in the fact that I feel the subject (transgender) was wrong for the strategy we were given. I feel that the marks given will reflect this. I hope that the seminar paper will back my presentation."
  • Theories of Thinking and Learning
Natalie, Emily and myself are yet to do our presentation for Sian's lecture. It is about Jerome. S. Bruner - that is happening on the 28th February.
  • ICT
Things have been getting interestnig in ICT recently. We now have Suzie Pugh for the Lecture. We hhave talked about Tracey Emin

I have no always been a fan of modern art but i will go into more depth in my next blog...entitled "Ode To Tate"

right i am off to bed now, i am getting tired now. More next time!

Google Chrome Apps

On exploring Google Chrome, I came across an app called 'Connected Mind'.

This is such a handy tool for MindMapping for Sian's Lectures.

Amazing. 'Nuf Said.

Another Research Week...to clean or not to clean??

In each term in , we are given a research week.
Whether we research how our Dyson works, the effect of alcohol on the body or the effects of Jeremy Kyle's Voice is one thing, but we are supposed to complete tasks given to us by lecturers. Which is fair enough.

So I finished my cleaning and sat on my lovely new bed and read what we had been given for Sian Sanders' task in 'Theories of Thinking and Learning'. I just could not get my head round it. I shall leave that for breakfast, i thought. It was 11pm.

So, I found the Google Chrome Web Store and came across a program called 'Pulsate'.

It is sort of a "make-your-own-ambient-music" thingymabob. I love it. I urge anyone to open it, click the black screen for a few bubbles and return to studying. The bubbles move or 'pulsate' back and forth, until they bump into each other and create a note/tone/pretty noise. The more bubbles you click, the better. Click until you have the right sound, pop the kettle on, pick up that reading/book/assignment and go for it.

I finally understand what 'Emotional Intelligence' is.

Sorry!...

It has been ages since I blogged. I feel a little guilty to be honest, so I am apologising.
Sorry!

Right, so where was i?
Oh yes. My Assignment.

I will be doing my ICT assignment piece on Alfred Hitchcock and his many films. I will be exploring his many genres and styles and his life.
I will also be presenting my assignment in a multitude of different ways, creating art work and sculpture to go with my assignment. I will also keep an online diary, on a different blog made solely for my ICT assignment, the address of which i shall give at a later date (when i set it up)!

bye for now...
